My first tour couldn't have been better! With Norman and Florence Smith, my Mom, and 12 more, it was a perfect way to get up close and personal !

Another fishing demonstration0 viewsNot staged here, two fisherman are actually plied their craft (at middle right). The technique was to stand in the water with the reed basket half in water, waiting for a fish. A quick flick would hopefully capture the fish, allowing the water to drain through the basket. I always wondered how Jesus got his fish for the breakfast, and this answered that question !

Jerusalem Panarama 40 viewsA look west from the same spot. At far right of the wall, partially obscured by the tree, is the Eastern Gate.

Another smiley1 viewsA LOL picture... I took it because I saw Shelley acting like Vanna White ("I'd like to buy a vowel!") with Arabic. But then when I got it home and enlarged, realized she was actually pointing to her favorite Arabic "smiley face" !!

Jerusalem Panarama 23 viewsTurning slightly left (facing southwest) a continued view from previous picture. Here is a shot of the original city hill, the City of David. The grey dome at far right is the A<?> Mosque and between it and the road is an excavated area used as office space in Byzantine times, and possibly Temple accessory rooms prior to that.

Syrian no-man land2 viewsWe'd gone through the border crossing and travelled for a few minutes, so I assumed we were in Syria heading toward the night's hotel. In reality, we were in a DMZ between Jordan and Syria. My passport was found with an Israeli stamp, and, despite my Syrian visa already accepted, I was not allowed to continue. It's not a good picture, but the last of the trip <sigh>.Sep 16, 2011

View to Israel - 12 viewsLooking mostly west over the Jordan Valley into Israel. I need to look up the peaks you see on the horizon-- they are famous Bible landmarks. The following 2 pictures continue a panoramic view.Sep 16, 2011

View to Israel - 22 viewsOne turn right from previous shot, the picture I dreamed of during my first visit to Israel. Then, gazing from Tiberius wondering what the topography looks like from the east. We look diagonally across the Sea of Galilee (from the southeast corner) to Tiberius. Also note the two hill ranges-- great shot of "Lower" and "Upper" Galilee.Sep 16, 2011
